| dear Dr Petra there’s dis guy i like at work and i know he likes me too and he told me so and we are dating each other but no one knows that we are in a relationship and i asked him if we could be open about it and he agreed but he is totally shy to talk, hug,or kiss me the only place where we express our feelings is on mxit so would you please tell me what to do in this kind of situation. | It’s tough when someone is shy. Perhaps you could ask him what would help him feel more confident and comfortable? It’s also worth being assertive here and letting him know that even if he is shy, you have needs and expectations within this relationship. That means that you want to be shown affection and to have your relationship noticed in places other than on mxit. Gently explain you’ve noticed he doesn’t seem to hug or kiss much and ask him if there’s any reason why. It could be it’s just early days, or perhaps he doesn’t really know what to do. Maybe he doesn’t want you to feel pressured, or perhaps it’s simply easier for him to express how he feels in certain places. If he knows he has permission to be more open and knows you want this things should improve. If he continues to be a closed book you may want to review if this is a relationship that suits your needs. |
