Feel The Burn
Dear Dr Beauty,

I’m about to go for a week-long holiday to Ibiza and am desperate for a non-greasy sun cream that will still allow me to tan. In the past I’ve used products sparingly to avoid the sticky texture, but this has meant I often burn. There are so many brands available all promising the same things – have you got any suggestions?

Choosing a sun cream can be extremely confusing. It’s an essential holiday purchase and you don’t want to make the wrong choice either because it isn’t cheap! The Soltan range by Boots is great value and just as effective as any of the more expensive brands. It is non-sticky and will protect from the sun’s rays whilst helping you achieve a gorgeous even tan.
Soltan also comes in a Once formula to be applied once before heading out into the sun, but we recommend you continue to top up every couple of hours, especially if you’re in and out of the sea or hotel pool. It comes in a variety of SPFs, but as usual you should start with a high factor of around 25 and move to a lower factor later in the week, although we wouldn’t recommend going any lower than SPF15 unless you want to end up looking like a vintage handbag. If you’re fair-skinned and don’t tan easily then avoid the sun between midday and 3pm when it’s the hottest. Even better reach for a bottle of the fake stuff and avoid the risk of looking like a lobster altogether.
