James Bond – Quantum of Solace (12A)
The Pitch After his transformation from suave womaniser to gritty hard man in the 2006 blockbuster, Casino Royale, James Bond is back and this time he’s tougher and sexier than ever. Quantum of Solace sees Bond picking up the pieces from the last film, avenging the death of his girlfriend Vesper Lynd. While on the hunt for the shadowy organisation that blackmailed Vesper to betray him he comes across sinister villain, Dominic Greene, who immediately makes his mission a lot more difficult.
The Talent Daniel Craig looks set to become the most popular Bond of all time and with all those muscles it’s not hard to see why! In her first major movie role, Gemma Arterton is fantastic as MI6 agent Angel Fields and it’s clear she’s set to become one of cinemas biggest new stars. Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko brings a sultry and mysterious edge to Bond’s love interest Camille and is the final touch to an impeccable cast.
The Verdict More so than with any other Bond film, there is a focus on Bond’s emotions which enables his mission and motives to be understood. This makes for a much darker and more believable film and enables you to completely lose yourself in Bond’s world. There is still plenty of hold-your-breath action scenes with flying bullets, splintering glass and crunching cars. It’s always hard to adjust to a new Bond but it seems as though Daniel Craig has grown into his role, meaning that in Quantum of Solace Bond is the (not so) polished, finished piece.
