Life at MKP Towers is pretty fab – we get to talk celebs, lads and fashion from dawn till dusk. Pretty sweet, huh? Our very favourite days are when we get to meet stars – and even better when they’re hot, male, charming and dimpled! Which is why we wore extra-big smiles when we found out we were going to chat to Rafi Gavron, the sexy star of Inkheart.
Not heard of him yet? Well read on ladies, because he’s the Hollywood eye candy of the future! He’s not only a very talented young actor (he was nominated for Most Promising Newcomer at the British Film Awards for his first ever flick), but his mischievous charm and cheeky smile is guaranteed to make you all starry-eyed and fluttery-hearted.
In the name of all things MKP, we did our best to prise as much juicy information as we could out of him. So now we know what he was like when he was little, how he became famous, who his perfect girl is, why he’d like to be Mowgli from The Jungle Book, how come he can run up walls (yes really!) and and how he’s best mates with Ed Westwick and Chace Crawford! Prepare to fall in love MKPers!
Tell us a bit about Inkheart…
Inkheart is a film about a man who when he reads out loud the characters come out of the story books. And when a character comes out someone from the real world goes in, and he loses his wife this way.
You’ve starred alongside some super-famous actors and actresses now, like Helen Mirren, Juliette Binoche and Jude Law, do you ever get starstruck?
All the time.
Who by the most?
I think it was probably Jude Law. I’m straight as an arrow but he’s an incredibly attractive man and he’s got a level of charisma that surrounds him which is just shocking. I mean he’s got the X Factor!
Tell us a bit about you…
I grew up in North London, in Primrose Hill, so I’m from a North London Jewish family with an American mother. I had a pretty privileged childhood – I grew up in a nice house, I’ve got two little brothers, and two cats and I went to a private school – I did that whole deal. Then I left school when I was 15…
How come?
I hate school, I hated it!
How did that go down with your parents?
Fantastically! They were shocked! It was a strange time. That was when I was doing Breaking and Entering so I just told school, ‘Later!’. I tried to go back at one point and go to college, but that only lasted for six months. I met a beautiful girl there and that lasted for two years but that was the only positive thing to come out of that!
Did you do your GCSEs?
I did one, in English and got a B.
What were you like as a little boy?
Well I don’t remember, but my mum says I was always an attention seeker. And there are some stories about me when I was about two years old when I’d describe things as ‘amphibious’ and tell people off when they were smoking because lighters were ‘flammable’ – just the most ridiculous things!
Did you always want to be an actor?
No not at all, I had no idea! I still have no idea!
So what did you want to be?
I wanted to be a train driver at one point. I probably wanted to be a fireman or something at like three or four. But from 10 to 15 I really had no passions. At one point I wanted to roller blade professionally. I used to roller blade a lot of ramps and that, so I wanted to go pro with that for a bit, or ski or something…
So you’re quite sporty then?
Yeah, I’m into extreme sports – individual sports, not team sports coz I blame everyone else when things go wrong and I get furious when they blame me! So I’m not a good team player, unless I’m on a movie.
