how can you tell when someone is depressed?

When someone is depressed they generally cut themselves off from the world. They don't talk to anyone, and if they do it's normally about negative things. They'll want to be alone a lot. And they're probably dislike themselves quite a bit, like saying how they hate the way they look/their personality. There's other things too, but these are just the typical things to look out for.
