Paying for sex with prostitutes who are controlled by pimps is set to become a criminal offence in England and Wales, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said. Anyone who knowingly pays illegally trafficked women for sex could face rape charges, while kerb crawlers could face prosecution for a first offence. There will also be more "naming and shaming" of kerb crawlers and new police powers to close brothels.
Currently buying and selling sex is legal in this country, but soliciting and pimping are not.
What do you think the law should be on prostitution? Should pimps be prosecuted? Should selling sex be completely illegal? If so, who should be punished, prostitutes or the men that use them?

| Prostitution should not be illegal. The more laws there are protecting these people and establishing their rights, the safer it will be for everyone involved. Sex is not a crime if it's safe and consenting, whether you pay for it or not. I don't agree with pimping, if a man or woman want to sell themselves, it should be on their terms, and within set laws. Watching Stephen Fry in America really opened my eyes to this whole thing. |
