If, like us, you’re the fearless type, then you’re probably constantly thinking of where your next adrenalin fix is going to come from. Bungee jumping, abseiling, parachuting… pah! They are SO last year! We wanted something just a little bit different for our next mission. A space mission in fact.
How does it feel to float weightlessly? How do you go to the loo? What’s the food like? What happens to your body? Questions, questions… so you can imagine our surprise and excitement when we found out Coke Zone were offering us the chance to get a little taste of what it would be like to be an astronaut. In America!
Before you could say “lift off” our bags were packed and we were on our way to Florida, the home of Disney World and the world-famous Kennedy Space Station to begin our once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The International Kennedy Space Station is also home to NASA. Situated on the east coast of Florida, the huge 140,000 acre site is surrounded by water which is home to all sorts of wonderful creatures. On the day we were there we spotted dolphins, alligators and turtles. Luckily the poisonous snakes didn’t make an appearance!
Our first stop was the US Astronaut Hall Of Fame where we got to see everything the real astronauts would have eaten, worn, slept in and even pieces of the shuttle they travelled in! Believe it or not they even had a Coca Cola machine onboard one of their missions! Next it was into the space station itself. Security here is seriously tight. We had to walk through airport-style metal detectors, have our bags checked thoroughly and had to switch on our cameras just to prove they worked and weren’t disguised as anything else. Space exploration is serious stuff you know!
