Garnon Davies plays loveable geek Elliot Bevan in Hollyoaks, but he looks set to shrug off that image for good when he gets together with former model and Hollyoaks hottie, Sarah Barnes. Of course in true ‘Oaks style, nothing ever goes smoothly or according to plan and pretty soon things start to go pear-shaped. Garnon filled us in on what’s in store for Elliot and Sarah in the coming weeks.
So what’s going to happen between Sarah and Elliot?
The role reversal is quite interesting, don’t you think?
It was interesting because usually it’s the man pressuring the girl to have sex but Elliot is different to other men. He doesn’t really get involved in the whole lad culture and he’s quite stubborn – if he doesn’t want to do something he won’t do it. They were good scenes to shoot.
Do you think this will hit home with many Hollyoaks viewers?
I hope it does as perhaps they might be going through this themselves and there’s a strong message in there which Elliot really does struggle with.
Can you relate to Elliot’s decision?
I didn’t lose my virginity until I was 18 but I never felt pressured in to doing it, it just wasn’t something I was interested in until I was with my first girlfriend. But most of my friends had sex before they were 16 and they all say now that they wished they’d waited. Two of my friends had babies when they were 15 and even though they don’t regret having them, the rest of us moved away and went to drama school. I was never a typical lad and I never had that many girls interested in me but it never really bothered me. I am glad to say I didn’t lose my virginity until I was 18.
Do you think Hollyoaks is getting more moral these days?
Well there is a lot of promiscuity in the show normally, and then we’ve got this character who isn’t the most attractive character who goes against the Hollyoaks norm and has one of the most beautiful girls in the show after him and he’s not budging, so I think they are sending out a different message. You have the McQueen’s who sleep with everyone, and the gay storyline and then you’ve got Elliot who refuses to be forced in to having sex.
