Hi Petra I need your help on something. I’m really worried about a friend of mine and she told me not to tell anyone but I don’t know what to do. She told me her dad had come into her bedroom a few weeks ago and got into bed with her (she’s 15). She said nothing really happened but I don’t know if I believe her. She said it hasn’t happened since but that she feels really weird and doesn’t know if that’s abuse or not. |

Hi
It’s good that your friend felt she could confide in you and I’m glad you’ve not kept it to yourself. I think she should talk to someone about her father’s actions. Just because it’s only happened once, doesn’t mean it won’t happen again. She should find someone she trusts. There are loads of people out there who will listen to you. If she doesn’t feel like she can talk to her mum, then maybe there’s a teacher, school nurse, personal friend or even her doctor. She can also ring ChildLine, free on 0800 1111 and get confidential advice - the main thing is that she knows she’s not alone and if she needs help, there are people she can talk to. She could also visit www.donthideit.com for more information and advice on sexual abuse. |
